Whitelee Windfarm is located just 20 minutes from central Glasgow, and always has something to offer visitors of all ages. At Europe’s largest windfarm, you’re invited to enjoy the wonderfully-equipped visitor centre, a fun place to learn about renewable and green energy. The exhibition room has hands-on activities, where you’ll learn everything there is to know about building and maintaining a windfarm. The learning hub hosts educator-led sessions, where schools and colleges are invited to take place in a ‘Wind Works!’ workshop. If you’re feeling a bit peckish, head to the contemporary cafe. It serves a selection of hot and cold food, teas, coffees and children’s meals, and has large glass windows from which to view the wind turbines. The external viewing deck also provides stunning vistas, and offers the perfect place to relax when the breeze is soft and the sun is shining. Finally, stop off at the shop, where souvenirs and gifts will suit every budget and taste: stocking everything from stationery items to children’s toys, you’ll pick up something to ensure you cherish the visit.

Wow! You see these turbines from a distance, but to arrive at Whitelee and see & hear them up close, AND see how many of them there are (biggest onshore UK wind farm) is something else. The free tracks map really brings home the scale of this place. Recommended place to go, especially if you fancy a spin on your bike, a walk of the dog, a jog, a run, or give the wee people in your life some fresh air. Cafe none too bad either. PS Guess what ... it can be windy, so come prepared with a jacket and decent footwear. Umbrellas not recommended!
